Washington D.C. trip, Day 1

I've decided rather than eating an entire elephant at once... I would break this trip down into separate days.   That may be logical to all of you, but it just came to me :o)

There are going to a ton of pictures!!! And no, I am NOT posting them all even though it may seem like it.  We did so many things and had 3 camera's going, so, bare with me and maybe even learn a little history at the same time :O)

Rylan is in LOVE with airplanes!
He sat and watched them the entire time we waited to board our plane!

 Finally boarding :o)

Touching the outside of the plane for good luck :o)

Rylan's 1st Flight wings :o)
He loved them and held on to them most of the flight!
Our 1st stop Saturday Morning was a Air and Space Museum by the Dulles Airport.
A lady in the airport told us about it and I'm so glad she did because it completely out did the one in D.C.!
It ended up being Dallas and Rylan's favorite part of the trip!
It had so many famous planes and space things, it was way fun!

The Space Shuttle Discovery :o)
It was so cool to see it and all the details up close!

The next stop was Arlington Cemetery.
We watched the Changing of the Guard
Rich and I have seen it before but the kids liked it.
So quiet and respectful!  While we were there, some people were talking to loud and also a cell phone rang... the guard turned both times and commanded them to be silent!

Not that he would have remembered it anyway...
but this is the only thing he knows about Arlington :o(

 The Arlington Amphitheater

As we left Arlington, Dell asked if anyone would like to see in the stables where they keep the horses that pull the carriages for funerals (like Ronald Reagan's etc) ...
If anyone knows Mackenzie, she is an avid animal lover!  Especially horses!!!
She was even wearing her horse shirt that day!
So the answer was of course a YES!!!!!

This is the biggest horse we have ever seen!!!  It is different than the white one in the pictures above.  Our guide was well over 6 ft tall and this horse was taller than him!  Just his head was as big as Rylan!  He had to crouch his neck down to put it through the bars :o)

 Our nice tour guide-
Mackenzie asked if she could have his cowboy hat, but he said only if he could have her cool horse shirt... she didn't want to make that deal :o)
This is our cute little car we got to drive around for the week.
It was really kind of fun!
 Iwo Jima

We went to a fun park at the starting of the landing strip of the Reagan Airport.  The airplanes fly so low over you to land!  Rylan loved it!  He did not want to leave!  We did end up going back that night (pic's to come) so he got to see them twice :o) He was in heaven!!!
The new World War II Memorial.
Rich and I hadn't been here yet so it was kind of fun to add a new one on to our list.
It was really peaceful and pretty!

The view of the Washington Memorial from the WWII Memorial
 And the Jefferson Memorial :o)

And we ended our day back at the park to satisfy Rylan's love for airplanes :o)
I love this picture!!!

Day 2 to come...
