Day 4: Tour of the White House

Tuesday morning, bright and early was our tour of the White House.  We met up with Senator Mike Lee and   he walked us over and got us through the gate.  No phones or cameras were allowed in the White House until you passed these big columns in the pic below.  While we were waiting to go through security, a few firetrucks and ambulances came through and went through a special gate... no one knew why until we got inside the White House, but apparently Obama was minutes away from flying away in his helicopter.  So everyone stood and watched through all the big windows as he gave his wave to everyone and flew off.  We then turned to head through the halls and there was their curly haired dog with some security guy... but no pictures were allowed so we just have memories of those 2 events.  But we walked through and saw all the rooms that you are allowed to see.  So, my kids, whether you are for or against Obama, got to see the President of the United States in person, even if it was kind of far away :o)

Time to leave DC :o)  This is Jason Chaffetz ... secretary or something like that.  She helped us get into a lot of things and we visited with her quite a few times, so as we were returning the government plates and things, we had to take a picture :o)
Before we left on our trip, I told Rich that I did not want to go over to the East Coast and just find the nearest McD's or fast food chain every time to eat.  We watch Diners, Drive-in's, and Dive's and Rich is always drooling over the places they go and a lot of them are back east, so I told him to figure out some that he wanted to try and we did!  They were all hits!  This is one of them- Ben's Chili Bowl.

I'm not a fan of Chili but the boys loved it and their fries!
Dell was "lucky" enough to sit in the seat where Obama sat for his 1st meal after he was sworn in :o)
Yeah Dell! lol!

Then, what a crazy day!!!!  We drove clear to a little town in Pennsylvania called Harrisville and found a hotel for the night.  We decided to run to a little restaurant for dinner and as we were sitting there, by a window, Connie stands up, grabs her i-phone and starts saying "No way! No way!  Oh my gosh!  No way!"  and leaves the restaurant!  We all had NO IDEA what in the world she was doing!  We start looking out the window cause that's where she had been looking and we see the Romney Bus drive past and park at the hotel next door... followed by Connie! :o)  It circled the hotel and ended up parking right by the restaurant, so after we finished eating we went out and took pictures by it :o)  The driver came back and we got to talk to him for a bit.  Sadly Romney wasn't with him, he had dropped him off somewhere already and was headed somewhere else, but what a fun day!  1st you see the current President in the morning and then see the bus of the one running against him that night! :o)  and in a tiny little town in the middle of no where! :o)

Once again, what a fun day :o)

A little R&R in the pool that night!
Mackenzie rubbed my aching, fidgety, swollen from the long car ride feet :o)
Ahhhh!  Thanks Kenze!
