We went to view the Falls from our side first, and not to be negative but it seemed so run down and dead! I felt like we drove through a ghetto to get their and then the grass was all dead and trash on the ground... just not like you would think a big attraction like Niagara Falls should be.
That is probably the prettiest picture you can get on our side :o)
Looking over at the Canada side
The Canada side on the other hand, was beautiful and green and flowers planted every where. The mist of the falls was blowing that way so it was all wet and clean. I don't know if it always tends to blow that way, maybe that is why it's greener and ours is dead :o) but there were grounds keepers working all over and there were souvenir shops, malls, and business's. And the view from the Canada side is beautiful!
The next pictures need a little "prepping" before you see them... We had a long drive to be able to see Kirtland the next day and we had to find a hotel while on the road. So Rich was looking up hotels on his phone and found a Ramada that was a great deal and the pictures had a beautiful pool and green trees and nice rooms. So we decided we would go there.
When we pulled into the parking lot, we could tell this was going to be an adventure! The parking lot had weeds growing in the cracks and only 2 - 3 cars in the parking lot. It looked really old and run down... NOTHING like the photo's on their website!
We went and checked in and the feelings didn't get any better!
The decorations were the old white lattice and FAKE, bad greenery ;o)
So they gave us our room that was on the 5th floor, we took the elevator up, got off and turned the corner and this is what we saw! All of us at once started singing the Twilight Zone theme song!!!
"You have now entered into... The Twilight Zone!"
When we found our rooms, the one assigned to us already had someones stuff on the bed, so we quickly shut the door and joined Dell and Connie in theirs next door while Dell went down to get new rooms. While looking around, we opened the drapes to look out the window and the sheer curtain was COMPLETELY shredded! I'm not talking with like one hole, I'm talking there were about 10 ripped, shredded, gaping holes!!!! I didn't get a pic of that, but Connie did!
Dell came back with our new room assignments which were on the 3rd floor now - because according to the desk attendant, there were no more available rooms on the 5th floor?????? REALLY??????
So we took the elevator down, had the same view of the Twilight Zone hallway and found our room#....
and this is what we found....
Heaven forbid you replace the little room # plaque ;o) ... just right in pen! That works!
And this little number was right at the top of my bed... an uncovered electrical outlet! watch out- you stretch your arm to far in the night and you won't be waking up in the morning!!!! :o)
The rest I didn't get a picture of, but so that the memory can go down in history... we decided to look at the rest of the hotel for a bit. We took the elevator again and the kids beat us on- we told them to just hit the bottom button to go to the main floor... when we all got on, apparently the bottom button was not the main lobby, what they pushed was labeled T1??? We don't know exactly what that stood for, but when the doors opened up, it was an old rundown dark hallway and the kids and Rich (who were the ones that dared step off and look) said there were old computers and things laying all over the place and big dark stains on the carpets. They said it actually looked REALLY creepy!... I didn't care to look after that and they wouldn't go back for a second look either! Not even Rich! :o)
We quickly went up to the lobby and got off and walked down the hall to the swimming pool that looked so nice in the photos- the hot tub was drained and dry with barricades all around it and the pool was just an old run down lap pool with 2 or 3 very elderly people trying to stay a float... it looked like they were really doing a therapy session in the pool. -- We left!
We then tried to find where the free "HOT" continental breakfast, as advertised, was going to be served. It was down by the lovely white lattice and greenery :o) In the morning, it consisted of hot coffee (according to a couple there at the time it was warm and tasted nasty!) - but I guess that is where they could claim the HOT part of the breakfast. Then in a little tray with a lid was your choice of a slice of wheat bread... or white bread! NO toaster, no jams... just bread :o) then there was a plate of danish dessert things and a pitcher of milk on ice and 3 kinds of cereal in a plastic dispenser thing which made them all look stale :o) It was so tempting! :o) But... at this point we weren't expecting much!
Oh ya! And did I mention it was supposed to rain with thunder that night :o) We all went to bed hoping we didn't wake up in another dimension! All you have to do to scare Mackenzie now is say "Ramada" :o) But what an adventure! What would the trip have been with out at least one experience like that! It makes you remember it all the more! We now call that our Tower of Terror Hotel... ranks up there with the one from years ago when we did this trip before kids with Rich's family... We had our lovely cockroach hotel that we still all talk and laugh about!
Next Post: Kirtland... our last day :o(
